 COMPETITIONS GUIDEBOOK

The Competitions Guidebook provides students an insight into everything they need to know before taking on QUTLS’ competition and external legal competitions. The Guidebook contains vital information on each competition, including: a crash-course on how each operates; instructions on how to prepare; examples of previous problems; previous student submissions; and, of course, how to sign up. The Guidebook also incorporates anecdotes, commentary and insights from experienced competitors and professionals who will speak to the benefits that arise from participating in competitions.

THE GAVEL

The Gavel is the QUT Law Society’s biannual student magazine, published each May and October and available online through the QUTLS website.

The magazine showcases the voices, creativity, and perspectives of QUT law students, alongside contributions from the wider legal and community sphere. Each edition features a mix of written pieces, reflections, and creative work, giving students a platform to share ideas beyond the classroom.

Whether you’re keen to submit a piece or just enjoy reading what fellow students have to say, The Gavel is a space to engage with the law school community in a different way.

SPRINGBOARD CAREERS GUIDE

The Springboard Careers Guide is designed to support students as they explore and plan their legal careers. Whether you’re just starting to think about what comes next or beginning to apply for clerkships and graduate roles, this guide aims to make the process feel more manageable.

The Guide covers a range of topics including CVs, interviews, volunteering opportunities, alternative career pathways  and insights from leading law firms. We hope it helps students feel more informed and confident as they take their next steps.

QUTLS FIRST YEAR GUIDE

This year, our main message is Make Every Shot Count. Starting law school can feel overwhelming, but it also comes with so many new opportunities. The QUTLS First Year Survival Guide is designed to help students feel more connected and supported as they begin their degree.

The Guide covers many aspects of starting university and law school, introduces the opportunities and support available through QUTLS and QUT and is there to help students make the most of their university experience. We hope that everyone finds parts of it helpful as they start law school.
