  • Law Revue and The George Street Journal

    QUTLS LAW REVUE

The QUTLS Law Revue showcases our member’s intellectual and creative pursuits. Our members submit extended written pieces which focus on a number of policy and legislative changes that interest students, but also correspond to the current socio-legal climate. It is usually a witty event, filled with the law school’s best singers, dancers and actors. It is solely written by QUT Law students, covering a broad range of legal and non-legal areas.

    THE GEORGE STREET JOURNAL

Pioneered by our esteemed founder Sir George Street of the Journal family in 1825, the Journal has unabashedly commented on the happenings of the QUT law school and wider university ever since. This has inadvertently led to the creation of the iconic George Street in Brisbane’s CBD and the social media platform Facebook in order to facilitate the publication’s legendary QUT Law Society event threads.

  • Competitions in Sem 2

    Championship Moot

The Championship Moot is the premier event for mooters, judges and spectators, with high engagement from more advanced students. Competitors will be provided with a complex problem that tests their academic rigour and advocacy skills. The competition offers a challenge to students who have performed will in other competitions and is considered to be a springboard to further success. Many of its finalists go on to become state and national representatives of QUT and the QUTLS.

    Sentencing

The Sentencing Competition is one of the main criminal law competitions in the QUTLS calendar. Students participate in a sentencing hearing that is run almost identically to a real matter in a Queensland court. Competitors present their arguments as to why the court should sentence the defendant in a certain way. It is a great way for students to apply their advocacy skills, which is a must-have for anyone wishing to practice as a barrister or solicitor in criminal law.

    Client Interview

The Client Interview competition is one of the most popular and real-world skills based competitions. Students have the opportunity to interview a client, identify the complete set of facts behind their client’s experience and propose possible solutions specific to the legal problem at hand. It is a great opportunity for students to build on their communication and listening skills, improve their ability to interpret body language and strengthen their identification of when to ask questions.

    QILC

The Queensland Intervarsity Law Competitions (QILC) is an intervarsity advocacy competition hosted by QUT Law Society Inc. for 2026.

QILC brings together law students from participating Queensland universities to compete across five competition streams: Constitutional Moot, Human Rights Moot, Witness Examination, Negotiation and Client Interview. The competition is designed to give students the opportunity to develop practical legal skills, build confidence in professional advocacy settings, and represent their university in a supportive but competitive environment.

The event typically features guest speakers, reflections on the year that was, and the presentation of awards acknowledging outstanding academic, leadership, and community contributions within the QUT Law cohort.
